older and wiser . . . . i guess

first, i want to thank everyone for the lovely birthday wishes yesterday. and then i want to apologise for neglecting the blog for the past week. anna had a cool excuse, i just got a cold. but we'll be better - i promise.

i decided to post some things i'm loving today . . . maybe one of them will have to be my birthday gift to myself. enjoy!

Friday, February 13, 2009

in a dream world kate, myself, lucia, nicole and laura would leave our respective jobs at 5pm on friday, meet at pomme, sasha's, or some charming bar and have ourselves a glass of wine. however, since we all live in different cities this is not the case. so i send you, dear readers, into the weekend with this video in hopes of inspiring you all to relax, have a drink, and shake your booty in celebration!

glamour friday take 2

classic vanity
large ottoman and mirror a new interpretation of a vanity
this one reminds me of annad
mirrored vanities are so chic
desk and vanity all in one

hello, i'm lucia and i am going to be doing a glamour friday post here on all of the days. for my first post i would like to discuss vanities to me nothing screams ultra-feminine like a vanity. vanities are the space every girl needs to take time to stop and just think about herself. here are some that i think speak to everyone inner glamour girl.

tea-riffic

i think it's fair to say i'm a tea snob. i love tea. i drink it all day, almost everyday. i am always up for trying new kinds and combinations though earl grey, with a little milk and a squeeze of lemon will always have the number one spot in my heart. a colleague at work told me about this website adagio teas, and after poking around a bit i must say it looks pretty fantastic. not only can you buy tea and accessories, you can create your own tea blends and design the artwork for the label. each custom blend is posted to be purchased and each time someone buys your blend you earn points. prizes are awarded for the most popular blends each month. one last part of this website that makes me chuckle is the weekly video tea review with zack luye. some of the episodes are pretty hysterical and i have decided that in another life zack and i were best friends who drank tea and ate shortbread cookies all day long. a girl can dream can't she?

throwback thursday the remix (to ignition, what?)

to be 19 - part 2

since kate posted what we wore out, i thought i would post what we wore to class. notice the similarities? if it involved a funnel and a piece of tubing we were very interested.

oh to be 19 again

following up on anna's throwback thursday post (can you tell we just learned how to embed videos this morning) here is a post on what we would have worn to shake our stupid drunk little butts on the SAE ledge. i raise my cold can of icehouse (because you know i have 3 mini fridges full) to nelly, pigeons, boscoe sticks, the good men of kappa sig, the not so good men of sig ep, center court brunch, the party no one remembered, a closet full of black tops, bad fake ids, laying out on the swamp, D3 and the tan arm trio.
and now, without further ado, this is an outfit i legitimately wore 6 years ago and would wear again with pride. mock away dear readers . . . .. yeaaaaaaaaaaa boi.

hanes tank top

throwback thursday

here are a selection of videos that take kate and i back to freshman year at college. kate is gonna follow up with a post about what we might have wore to parties during this era. enjoy!

6. i love cheesy street dancing movies.

the best ones are step up, step up 2, you got served, honey, dirty dancing 2 havana nights, save the last dance, and stomp the yard. netflix a few and practice your moves.

indulge me for a moment dear readers

i have to admit that posting every day (or more than once a day) is hard. turns out that ms. anna is pretty fantastic at it, but today i just wasn't struck by inspiration. i spent some time looking at other blogs but everyone caught the plague of saint valentine. and i really hate valentine's day. i know anna and i posted some valentines day gift guides earlier, and while i hate the holiday, i do like online etsy shopping. but now as the day approaches the fanaticism has exploded. luckily the valentines day infection also provided me some inspiration. bear with me on my mini rant. a holiday designed around love, or hallmark's definition that love is plastic chocolate and teddy bears, should not make half the population feel excluded and the other half smug. if your relationship needs a designated day for you to remember that you love each other, or if you need to be so elaborate to make people feel jealous, you are trying to prove to yourself a feeling that isn't intrinsically there. and that isn't love, no matter how big you write a sentiment on a doily. but nonetheless, february 14th arrives no matter what, but this year i am encouraging my readers to take control of their day. rip it out of the hands of hallmark, people who think love is a boys II men song and couples that actually give each other single red roses. here are my suggestions of alternative love-themed holidays:

1. i love beyonce day

i do. from the early days of destiny's child to 'at last' inaugural-style. put on a fantastic pair of heels and dance around a room to ring the alarm.

2. i love chuck todd day

spend the day reading the entire new york times, the new republic, the atlantic, mother jones (i totally want my news filtered through the liberal lens, i admit it). spend the day getting a little smarter and wake up the next day to watch 'meet the press' and actually have your own opinions about the topics they are discussing.

3. i love being fit day

go for a run, walk, bike ride. spend the day eating healthy food. or just go for a run and treat yourself to a milkshake.

4. i love the west wing day

catch up on a favorite show and watch episode after episode. i like the west wing because people walk fast through the halls and make obscure references. i also like it because getting a date isn't a character's main goal but instead it's peace in the middle east.

5. i love chinese food day

. . . but i never make it. teach yourself how to make something totally different from what you usually make. even better, go to an ethnic grocery store to get the ingredients.

so those are my ideas. readers what are your ideas to not be either a hallmark drone or a angry wine drunk? post them in the comments, and the best idea gets a anti-valentines day card in the mail from your appreciative authors.

bust out the hunter wellies

kate mentioned that is it high mosquito season in jackson. here in st. louis we are at the very beginning of spring showers (no mosquitos yet). thunderstorms and gloomy days should never get you down, so here are a few things to make your day a little sunnier and a little drier.

sex and the city inspiration

sometimes late at night i watch old episodes of sex and the city. every once in a while i catch something that i hadn't seen before - an outfit, a pair of shoes, or in this case a glimpse of carrie's apartment and her amazing, organized, magazine collection.

lucia and i keep all of our european magazines and some others that are just to fabulous to throw away and i happen stumble upon a pretty great sale item at the container store yesterday.

these guys are only $4.99 each which i think is a steal and just as cheap as ikea. pair a handful magazine files with this bookcase and call me a happy girl.

practical gal

if kate is the cheeky one, then i am the practical one. here are the items i am taking camping.

baby i'll toast your marshmallow

recently i was brutally attacked by some very rude mosquitoes (because in mississippi, february means mosquito season). my legs look like the better end of scabies, and happened to remind me of camping. as you all know, camping is not exactly my thing. but i do love a good plaid, so here is a little compilation of things that i would wear camping . . . provided it didn't mean i had to sleep outside.

lace-up wellies

plaid blouse

chunky cardigan

cheeky little pants

ode to masking tape

oh masking tape. you came and swept away my adhesive loving heart.

you held together my tri-fold science project foam boards.

before i knew about duct tape, you fixed all broken things.

in a pinch you have been used with paper towels to make a band-aid, especially the time i fell, running late to class in college.

i marvel at the clean paint lines i can get while using you.

you have assisted me in many garage sales, pricing and labeling things.

two of my favorite things are organizing and sharpie markers. were you created just for me?

...and you also come in pretty colors.
